Breeding Bird Surveys
All species of bird whilst actively nesting are afforded legal protection under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (as amended) and special penalties are available for offences related to certain schedule 1 birds.

Picture of Breeding Bird (Swift)Often large scale developments require bird surveys to identify how winter and breeding birds utilize their site. Where schedule 1 protected birds and species of principle conservation concern are identified through careful planning often mitigation can be avoided and key habitats used by important birds can be retained. This avoids potentially expensive mitigation.

Please note: all protected species surveys and mitigation are subject to seasonal constraints according the each species behavior and biology. To get advice on timings of surveys give us a call for an informal chat to see how we can help.
